ABOUT STD TESTING IN FLORIDA
Start off with a clean bill of health. This can put you and your partners’ minds at ease so that everyone knows where they stand. Getting tested for sexually transmitted diseases is fast, affordable, and painless. The same is not the case when many of the common diseases go untreated or are passed unknowingly to your partners. It’s thought that sexually transmitted diseases have been around as long as humans have. There are descriptions of many of the symptoms of these illnesses in ancient texts and even on ancient Egyptian papyrus. (1) Modern lifestyles have seen the ebb, flow, and emergence of additional diseases that are real causes for concern.
While HIV is not the death sentence it once was, contracting other STDs can increase the risk of falling victim to this insidious virus: it also increases the likelihood that you’ll pass it on to your partner. (2) Other underlying health conditions can make it easier to become infected, even if the original illness has nothing to do with sex. However, sexually transmitted infections are preventable. Most of them are easily treated. However, if you don’t get tested, you can’t be treated. Your appointment at Dr. G’s Urgent Care isn’t just an opportunity to get tested, it’s also a chance to learn more about how you can protect yourself and the people you love. Dr. G’s Urgent Care offers a complete full panel screening to detect some of the most common STDs.

BENEFITS
The only way to be sure that you’re disease-free is to get tested.
Many sexually transmitted diseases can be acquired without knowing it. Symptoms are not guaranteed to appear. In other cases, it can take several weeks after being infected for a disease to become detectable. Left untreated, many STD’s can have consequences that can threaten your reproductive system or your life. (3)
CANDIDATES FOR TESTING
Whether you’re concerned about your genital health, just feeling under the weather, or ready to turn over a new leaf, it’s time to get tested. Some sexually transmitted diseases can be passed from mother to child. If you’re thinking about becoming pregnant, are pregnant, or are having problems becoming pregnant, get tested. If you’ve been the victim, or think you’ve been the victim of a sexual assault, get tested. Taking control of your health can be the first step to taking back control of your life.

WHAT YOUR TEST WILL ENTAIL
A quick blood and urine test can determine whether you’ve contracted a sexually transmitted disease, or are in the clear.
However, if you’re experiencing symptoms, our medical staff will perform a physical examination. This is an important part of making sure that your total health and wellness is given due attention.
Although there are many testing services available, some of which patients can perform from the privacy and comfort of their homes, there is no substitute for a physical examination by a trained medical professional. A medical professional can identify signs of STDs that may not be apparent or noticeable to the patient. One of the team members at Dr. G’s will inspect your skin, lymph nodes, genital and anal area.
STD TESTING FOR WOMEN
For women concerned about the chance of infection with an STD, a pelvic examination will be a crucial part of the diagnostic process. Dr. G’s Urgent Care offers caring and compassionate services for women’s health, including pap smears and pelvic exams.
An anogenital examination for females includes a pelvic examination, inspection of the vulva, urethral and vaginal openings, and perianal region. Next, we’ll perform a speculum examination of the vagina and cervix, during which a Pap smear may be administered. Lastly, the doctor will feel for any irregularities in the reproductive organs. (4)
This is important, because HPV, a common STD can lead to cervical cancer. Other STDs left untreated can result in PID and infertility. (5)
STD TESTING FOR MEN
For men, an anogenital examination will be performed. This involves an external genital examination and inspection of the penis, scrotum, and perianal region. If needed, an anoscopy can assist with the examination of the anal canal for those presenting symptoms in that area. (4)
RESULTS
It may take a few days to receive the results of your tests. The friendly staff will be able to discreetly notify you when the results are ready. Many STDs are easily treatable with medication, and if you require medication, you’ll be able to fill your prescription at the pharmacy at Dr. G’s. If you require other services, the compassionate team at Dr. G’s will be able to direct you to accessible resources. Your health comes first.
