ABOUT WORKPLACE HEALTH AND SAFETY
The introduction of the Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Act of 1970 saw sweeping changes to employee health and safety in the US. Since its inception, OSHA has placed stringent regulations and protocols on improving working conditions. These measures have helped the American workplace reduce injuries, accidents, and other hazards. Nevertheless, workplace accidents still happen. In Florida, the Department of Health developed the Occupational Health and Safety Program (OHSP) to further protect the health and safety of Florida workers. In addition, they actively partner with government agencies, private companies, and other organizations to gather and analyze data about workplace illnesses and injuries and advocate safety education and awareness.
SERVICES WE OFFER
Dr. G’s Urgent Care facilities in Delray Beach, Coral Springs, Lake Worth, or Fort Lauderdale offer many services that benefit both employees and employers.
Your first day at a new job can be exciting, but before that, your employer may request a pre-employment physical to ensure you can perform the job. For some professionals, these tests are required by law. At your appointment, our medical professionals will:
- Record your medical history and lifestyle
- Record body vital information, including body temperature, blood pressure, and weight/height
- Perform a physical examination
- Screen for drugs and alcohol
- Have vision and hearing checked
DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION (DOT) PHYSICALS
A Department of Transportation (DOT) physical examination is performed on commercial motor vehicle drivers and is required by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA). The examination is similar to a regular physical, but has additional criteria to ensure that drivers are in peak condition. For example, drivers should meet a minimum eyesight of 20/40 in each eye with or without corrective lenses and be able to hear a whisper at least 5 feet away. A DOT physical also includes a urinary analysis that screens for drug use.
Work-related injuries are injuries, illnesses, or conditions sustained while performing job duties at work. Dr. G’s Urgent Care can diagnose and treat many of the various physical conditions that can arise at the workplace.
- Injuries: Accidents happen, but other injuries can have a variety of causes, including performing your regular duties. Injuries can occur from lifting heavy objects, industrial equipment, or slipping and falling.
- Illness: These are conditions or illnesses that can develop or worsen during your employment. Developing COPD, asthma, or contracting a contagious disease as a result of time in the workplace fall into this category. They can occur spontaneously or develop over time.
- Repetitive stress injuries: These injuries are sustained by performing the same tasks many times every day over a long period of time. If you’re constantly bending over, lifting heavy objects, or making movements that repeatedly strain the same muscles, you will likely develop an RSI.
Your employer may order a drug test as part of pre-employment formalities or require them regularly while on the job. In either case, we are here to help. Dr. G’s Urgent Care conducts drug screens for illicit or prescription drug abuse, including:
- Opioids (Heroin, Codeine, or Hydrocodone)
- Anabolic steroids
- Phencyclidine (PCP)
X-ray imaging is often the only way to identify and diagnose certain injuries and illnesses. These high-quality images help our medical staff detect fractures, tumors, fluid in the lungs, and infections. Not only does a digital format allow better visibility, it also allows your X-ray imaging to be easily stored, shared, and saved.
ON-SITE FLU SHOTS
Getting a flu shot helps promote a healthy workforce. In these uncertain times with COVID-19 and its many variations, getting a flu shot is more valuable than ever. Doing your part in getting a flu shot reduces hospital visits and keeps the disease from spreading.

HEALTH SERVICES FOR EMPLOYERS
ANNUAL EMPLOYEE EXAMINATIONS
A company’s annual physical exams review overall employee wellness, while paying special attention to the aspects of an employee’s health that allow them to perform their job safely.
EXECUTIVE PHYSICAL EXAMINATIONS
Managers and supervisors have a lot on their plate. Long hours and stress can put their health at risk. We are here to safeguard their health by providing preventive care and conveniently arranged examinations that work around their schedule and are personalized to their needs.
HEALTH AND WELLNESS EDUCATION PROGRAMS
Education programs provide informational tools to reduce and eliminate certain lifestyle-related illnesses that profoundly impact employees’ lives and productivity. We can provide workshops, seminars, and group activities that teach the value of living a healthy life. We offer support programs for health issues, including smoking cessation and weight management.
Department of Transportation (DOT) Drug and Alcohol Testing
Employees who have a “safety-sensitive” position with the DOT and its sub-agencies are subject to drug and alcohol testing. DOT drug tests are performed with a urinalysis and screen for:
- Amphetamines (Methamphetamine and MDMA)
- Opioids (codeine and heroin)
- Phencyclidine (PCP)
INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL VACCINES & HEALTH
Employees traveling abroad for work or leisure should understand the vaccination requirements needed to enter a country. Before you go, our consultation will evaluate your medical health, advise you on country-specific diseases, and administer the appropriate vaccinations or prophylaxis. We offer multiple vaccinations that prevent hepatitis A and B, typhoid, rabies, and polio.
Immunizations and Vaccines
Throughout our lives, we receive many immunizations that protect us from certain illnesses. Our urgent care facility offers vaccinations for both adults and children, including the COVID-19 vaccine, flu shot, Td (tetanus), Tdap (whooping cough), and MenACWY (meningococcal meningitis).
ON THE JOB INJURY AND SUDDEN ILLNESS
If one of your employees suffers from a work injury, including slip, fall, overexertion, or burns, we can offer immediate treatment. After the injury, we can assist with the accompanying formalities, including requirements for workers’ compensation, medical insurance, and medical treatment.
MEDICAL SURVEILLANCE EXAMINATIONS
Chronic chemical exposures can lead to workers developing cancers and other skin, heart, and reproductive problems. A medical surveillance exam is a type of examination that proactively detects and scans for damaging health effects caused by chemicals or physical deterrents.
PRE-EMPLOYMENT AND PRE-PLACEMENT EXAMINATIONS
These tests are designed to ensure potential employees can adequately perform their job duties before being hired. These physicals help companies prevent unnecessary changes to their workforce and hire efficiently.
