COVID-19 testing and treatments are life-saving services essential for stopping the spread of this global pandemic. ABOUT
It’s not breaking news that the spread of the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has upended the world. This is a highly infectious respiratory virus caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. While some patients infected with COVID have displayed mild symptoms similar to that of the flu or cold, the virus has caused millions of deaths worldwide and has had a profound effect on our everyday life. The virus is spread through droplets and small particles that contain the virus, which can then either contaminate the air, or the things we touch. People who are closer than six feet from an infected person are the most likely to contract the virus. However, as we know, transmission can be prevented by social distancing, mask-wearing, hand/surface sanitization, and testing.
ABOUT COVID-19 TESTING
COVID-19 testing involves analyzing antibody samples to assess the presence of the virus. Our five offices in Delray Beach, Deerfield Beach, Lake Worth, Fort Lauderdale, and Coral Springs offer both rapid testing and the PCR test. While both are accurate, each has unique advantages that make offering both a vital resource for patients.

WHAT IS RAPID TESTING
Also known as an antigen test, this COVID-19 test detects certain proteins in the virus. Our medical professional collects samples of mucus in the nose using a swab. An antigen is the part of the virus that provokes an immune response, which is how your body recognizes and defends itself against bacteria, viruses, and other foreign substances, or pathogens. Antigen testing alerts to the presence of these proteins, which are found on the viral surface before your body has had the chance to launch an immunological response. That’s why these tests are recommended for those who have been exposed, or are concerned by symptoms similar to COVID. The test involved a cotton swab gently inserted into the nose to collect mucus samples. The swab is then rotated for 10-15 seconds before being removed. With an antigen test, results can be returned to the patient within an hour, however, this test is not as accurate as the alternative, the PCR test. [2]
WHAT IS A PCR TEST?
The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) is another method to test for COVID-19. [1] Also known as a molecular test, this method detects the actual genetic material of the virus (rather than just the antigens)by using a laboratory technique called PCR. It analyzes your upper respiratory specimen to look for the genetic material in your RNA. [3] The sample is collected by inserting a long, nasal swab into the nostril to take samples from the back of your nose. The swab is inserted into each nostril then rotated around inside the nose for about 10-15 seconds or throat for 15-20 seconds to gather mucus. The sample is sent to a lab for testing, and patients receive results in two to three days.
YOUR TEST RESULTS
NEGATIVE RESULT
The test did not show specimens present or the RNA concentration was below the limit of detection. A negative test doesn’t eliminate you from contracting the virus entirely; you still can get it. Please do your part in practicing responsible measures such as maintaining a social distance of six feet or more and wearing masks to prevent infection.
POSITIVE RESULT
You may test positive for COVID-19 because proteins from the virus that causes COVID-19 were found. Our compassionate staff will instruct you how to quarantine to avoid spreading the virus and recommend proactive treatments.

- Steroids: When the human body is battling an illness, an immune response is usually a good thing. Steroids like prednisone or dexamethasone can suppress the immune system, avoiding the occurrence of dangerous inflammation. However, these must be prescribed with caution.[4]
